Robert Burns
Robert Burns Centre - This award winning visitor centre tells the story of the connections between Robert Burns and the town of Dumfries. The well-researched exhibition is illuminated by many original documents and relics of the poet.
Robert Burns House - It was in this simple sandstone house in a quiet Dumfries street that Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, spent the last years of his brilliant life. He died here in 1796 at the age of just thirty seven.
Ellisland Farm - Some of Robert Burns' best-loved nature poems were inspired by the tranquil setting of Ellisland Farm. Ellisland is now a popular museum and visitor attraction and it provides a wonderful insight into the life of Robert Burns on a farm two hundred years ago. Located at Holywood, near Dumfries.
Walking
Twelve Apostles - With its maximum diameter of 88m, Twelve Apostles is the largest stone circle in mainland Scotland and one of the largest in Great Britain.
Southern Upland Way - Britain's first official coast-to-coast long distance footpath. From Portpatrick in the west with views across to Ireland, travel through the Galloway, Lowther and Moffat hills before heading into the Scottish Borders.
Glenkiln - A walk with a difference around a 'sculpture park' set in a quiet, attractive glen. Pieces by Rodin, Epstein and Henry Moore, collected by the local landowner Sir William Keswick.
Cycling
